Painting and Drawing
Painting is a two-dimensional art form where pigment, paint or other medium is applied to a flat surface such as canvas, paper or material. Our painting/drawing program is quickly growing with Helen Schafer Garcia as the Department Head. Helen is responsible for vetting qualified instructors to add to our program as well as growing the program. Disciplines include watercolor, acrylic, mixed media collage, drawing and sketching. We currently have four qualified and skilled instructors who can meet you where you are on your drawing and painting journey.

Fun Facts About Painting:
The oldest known paintings were found in caves located in France, Indonesia, Spain, India, China, Australia, and Southern Africa. The earliest cave paintings were simple geometric shapes and hand stencils, about 40,000 years old, while the oldest figurative cave paintings are around 35,000 years old. The first paints were made by mixing ground up minerals, bone, rocks or other pigmented materials with binders such as eggs or animal byproducts to hold it together.
