This class will focus on contemporary watercolor approaches including the “dropped in color” technique, which incorporates luminosity and brilliance in painting. It’s an exploratory, wet approach to painting that allows the colors to blend and fuse without making “mud”. We’ll work with other contemporary experimental painting techniques including collages, pours, mark making and surface textures to create glaze layers in exploratory compositions. Alternative supports will be explored with different types of paper. Collage will be introduced for a mixed media effect. Pigment characteristics, color theory, composition, and design will also be covered with demos, critiques and individual instruction.
Bring these supplies the first day of class: 1 sheet of Arches 140lb cold pressed watercolor paper- cut into quarters, 1 # 12 or 14 round watercolor brush, watercolor paints you already have on hand, palette, water container.
Supply list will be available upon registration. Please email Helen with any questions about supplies. Bring whatever supplies you already have on hand the first class meeting.
