Each week will cover a new discussion point relevant to the overall series theme - tell your friends and join the conversation!

August 7: Do Artists See Color Differently?

We’ll do a deep exploration of what color is and how artists and scientists have understood and used it.  There will be a little hands-on messing with paint.  Then we’ll look at how artists have used their knowledge of color theory and the science of color to make art. We’ll do a short exercise in color theory

August 14: Watercolor, The Art Medium

Did you know that not long-ago watercolor was not an accepted medium for exhibition?  We’ll explore the rise of watercolor in importance, and be in awe of artists like Winslow Homer, who pushed for its acceptance.  There will be a hands-on opportunity to look at watercolor papers and to try some basics with watercolor paints.

August 21: Transferring Ink from One Surface to Another

That’s the definition of printmaking.  For this club meeting, we’ll explore all thinks printmaking.  There are only four printmaking processes, each with a unique history that we’ll dig through.  You’ll get introduced to artists that have become famous for, and associated with each of the processes, like Rembrandt and etching.  There will be a fun hands-on exploration of the materials that printmakers use. (If you have what you think may be a print, bring it in for an identification).
