Join Instructor Dixon Fish for the next installment of his popular Art History Club series! Whether you’re new to art or a seasoned aficionado, make new friends in this welcoming environment and explore art history on a whole new level. Each week will cover a new discussion point relevant to the overall series theme - tell your friends and join the conversation!

July 3: Collectors and Collecting Art

From Popes to a mailman, we will look through history to discover great collectors, evil collectors and collectors with limited funds.  We’ll also talk about how the art market works; you don’t have to die to be a rich artist.

July 10: Things to see in the Great Museums

Did you know that the ancient Greeks had a museum?  We’ll start there, then discover how some of the largest museums and collections got started.  Did you know that the Louvre was built as a hunting lodge? And where did all of the stuff in the MET come from?  We’ll also look at some small museums with amazing collections that shouldn’t be missed. This will be a great way to create a bucket-list of museums and art to see.

July 17: From Pyramids to Skyscrapers

How have humans have pushed the boundaries of building? We’ll discuss why people build and what they build with. We’ll look at some of the significant buildings and architects in western art.  Do you know that we know the name of the main architect of one of the Egyptian pyramids?  You’ll see how architects followed the style that they lived in.  We’ll discover a few iconic architects, including Frank Lloyd Wright, who truly made quantum leaps in design.
