Class/Workshop Details

It is our pleasure to welcome Visiting Instructor Patty Gray to FSA for a very special fused / hot glass combing experience!  If you have some fused glass experience (including glass cutting), we invite you to join us for this next-level workshop.  

Patty has honed the art of combing or raking glass and teaches this technique throughout the U.S.  So, if you missed her class in Las Vegas at the Glass Craft Expo 2023, here is your chance!  Patty will bring a special kiln which is designed to be opened while the glass is extremely hot (1670°F) so it can be manipulated to achieve swirled designs.  During this workshop, you’ll explore glass color selection, strip cutting, strip setup preparation and more.  This is a rare opportunity to learn the techniques used to achieve gorgeous works of combed glass art from a master.  Patty’s years of experience as a professional glass artist will be invaluable as she demonstrates techniques, discusses firing schedules and shows you how to achieve spectacular results.

All materials are provided to create two (5 ½”) square or round combing & raking glass projects.  Your glass art will be kiln-fired after class and ready for pick up at FSA in approximately one week or contact our office for shipping options.  No outside glass is allowed.  Class size is limited to 10, so don’t delay in securing your spot!  There will be a lunch break and you are welcome to bring a cooler sack lunch or enjoy one of Fallbrook’s local eateries.

Warning!  This glass project requires working near an extreme heat source!  Therefore, to ensure your safety, in order to participate in this class, the instructor has required students be physically able to stand, bend, and lift 5 to 8 lbs. without assistance while wearing protective gear and follow instructions near extremely hot temperatures of a glass kiln.

Note:  Please wear closed-toed shoes and long pants as a safety consideration.
