Join Instructor Helen Shafer Garcia and work on two different book structures in this 4 week class which combines printmaking, illustration, and book structure instruction. The first includes color pencil on vellum, collage, and stitching. This simple book structure is a perfect way to draw, blend color, ink, and paint on 2 different but compatible surfaces. The combinations of color will harmonize with each other, shimmering through the translucent surfaces. It is an extraordinary multi-signature simple bound book that can be easily constructed.

The second structure will be an introduction to Collagraph printmaking using water-soluble inks. The Collagraph process, as the name suggests, is a form of collage. Printing plates will be produced with collage and hot glue to create free flowing designs. There are tremendous opportunities to experiment with textures with this unpredictable, intuitive method. The plate design is very versatile and durable for continued print runs, providing enough prints for two or more books. Further development on the images can be produced with mixed media. Additional $15 supply fee due at workshop.
