If you thINK about it, monotype is a fascinating process that produces elegant results. Historically referred to as “the painterly method of printmaking” monoprints are the only printmaking process intended for creating one unique, unrepeatable impression. Printmakers of all skill levels are welcome to join us for this unique and exciting class to create monoprints at your own pace. Instructor Denise Kraemer will teach you how to take your work from bold to ghostly impressions and adapt and develop ideas within your work.
Throughout the weeks, you’ll learn the proper use and cleaning of printmaking paper, tools, and the studio’s etching press; basic color mixing; ink additives and subtractive methods of ink manipulation using brushes, brayers, stencils, and unconventional materials. You’ll also learn the fundamentals of print registration and how to create prints from single and multiple plates; to play with color, texture, opacity levels, ink layering, and multiple impressions in order add depth to printed work and also to work with a “ghost” plate.
