This course is for students that have never taken a ceramics course, or maybe have let their ceramics skills lapse. Students will be taught the construction techniques of hand building and throwing. Demonstrations will be given weekly on the basics of ceramics: construction, trimming, decoration, firing, kilns, and basic glazing techniques. Project goals include a set of mugs/tumblers, a set of bowls, and a set of spice boxes (salt-n-pepper). Of course the student is not limited to these projects, but may bring additional ideas for the workshop to explore. Intermediate and Advanced students are also welcome to attend this class/workshop, but should be able to work independently. The last class all students will be participate in a Raku firing of one of their pieces.
*Note: First bag of clay will be included in your Course Fee. After that, clay can be purchased at the school for $20 per 25 lbs. Clay can only be bought during class from the Instructor.
