Director

M.S. Health Sciences, Certified Life Coach, Artist

Career: Karen has spent most of her career in the corporate world as an Environmental Health and Safety professional working for the healthcare, manufacturing and biotech industries. She has always been creative (dancing, singing, and painting) and made her move to the nonprofit world to continue her journey as an arts supporter and business woman.

In Her Own Words: “I am passionate about the arts because art, in any form, is the true expression of individual uniqueness. Everyone is creative and the ways we show creativity varies just as every snowflake is different from the next. Whether it’s from a first timer or a professional, watching people explore themselves through art is such an honor.  It is exciting and wonderful to be immersed in the business of offering a variety of meaningful arts and cultural experiences to our Southern California communities.”

More About FSA's Mission

A COMMUNITY BUILT FOR YOUR TRUEST CREATIVE EXPRESSION

Whether you are just beginning your creative journey, or you have already found your unique, artistic voice, Fallbrook School of the Arts is a creative arts center built for you! We are an inclusive, nurturing, arts community that celebrates all levels of experience. Our skilled and qualified instructors will support your artistic endeavors whether you want to try a variety of art mediums or hone your skills on just one. Welcome to FSA, your creative home away from home!

A HEALTHY PLACE FOR HEALING AND REFLECTION

It is no secret that people who create art are healthier and happier.  Research shows that people who create art are less depressed, more capable of problem solving and empathy, and live longer. Art is also cathartic and can help us heal from a variety of physical and emotional traumas. When creating, we tap into the deepest parts of ourselves. We learn more about who we are and how we operate. FSA offers a holistic approach to art because we include a wide variety of classes and workshops, but artist experiences and the community to support your creative journey. Remember, art is cheaper than therapy! And more fun!

A PLACE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY!

FSA offers classes and workshops for ages 6 to 106! We have programming for kids, both after school and during school holidays and the summer. We offer ongoing programming for adults, and we even have workshops for the family. Our environment is always positive, nurturing and inclusive. We have four bilingual instructors and offer programming for every budget. We even have scholarships for kids who need a little extra support! If you are looking for a healthy way to spend time with your family, check us out. We just know we’ll become your new favorite place to create.

YES, YOU REALLY ARE CREATIVE! WE'RE HERE TO NURTURE IT

We hear it all the time, “I don’t have a creative bone in my body.” We respectfully disagree.  If you have ever cooked, gardened, fixed something, made anything, that is proof that you are! Maybe you have not practiced creating ceramics, paintings, or glass art, but that’s why we offer classes and workshops! Practicing being creative leads to more creativity and greater self-confidence. Pick a class or workshop that you are interested in and don’t worry if you have never done it before. Our amazing instructors are here to help you develop skills and confidence in your decisions to create art. You are good enough. You are competent enough. All you have to do is try!

Sara Ferrer

Operations Manager

Education/Degrees: B.A. in English Literature with a Minor in Art History

Career: Sara has enjoyed diverse experiences across various fields, including manufacturing and consumer research, with a primary focus on copywriting, marketing, and event planning. However, FSA stands out as her favorite workplace!

In Her Words: “I am energized by the atmosphere of our artistic environment. It brings me joy to witness people who are passionate about their art, and am thrilled when students share their work with me. Many don’t realize their inherent creativity as a birthright; they just need to learn a few skills to express that creativity in a personal and beautiful way! I encourage everyone to give an art class a try, release their expectations, and see the magic that unfolds!”

History:

Welcome to Fallbrook School of the Arts. We are so glad you found us. FSA was founded in 1997 when Vince Ross purchased a historical train depot and converted it into an arts education center.  The campus includes multiple buildings and property enclosed by a decorative iron gate created by some of the first artists on site. Much of our history can still be seen as you tour the facility including remnants of what is left of our stone carving pavilion and our bronze sculpture program. FSA is one of two divisions of Fallbrook Center for the Arts, a 501c(3) nonprofit organization. Fallbrook Art Center is the other division and includes an exhibition space and a gift shop. Many FSA instructors sell their art in the Artful Gifts shop.

While FSA earns revenue from classes, workshops, private and special events, and artist demos, , we still rely on donors and grant funding to support our financial obligations and help us continue to grow our program. We accept donations in the form of equipment, supplies and, of course, money. Thank you, in advance, for your generosity.
