Students will learn how to coil a delicate basket from well-known basketweaver Nadine Spier. She will teach students how to start around a polished stone and how to weave so stitches line up on both sides of the basket. Students will also learn how to harvest/prepare their plant materials, how to shape the sides of the basket and taper down the final coil. Pine needles and waxed linen thread provided, but the coiling technique can later be used to weave many other common plants. Basketweaving is a wonderful way to recycle from the environment and it also channels stress! To view the instructor’s work, visit her website at www.nadinespier.com. Nadine’s baskets have been featured on the Discovery Channel, featured in numerous publications including “500 Baskets”and she has produced 3 videos on basketmaking. She teaches at art schools and weaving guilds around the U.S. and Canada.
