Party on! Fiestas are all about fun and living life for the moment. This is a perfect way to spend 2 days playing with collage layers, colored pencils, iridescent, interference, and opaque watercolors and water-soluble pencils on paper. Based on the ancient art of Mexican Amate paper painting, this process will allow you to discover ways to define the space around the botanical shapes with deep values and colors. I’ll guide you “poco a poco”, helping you create your personal fiesta design. We’ll start with the collage process to build up a foundation of color and images. Colored pencil and watercolors are layered on top, adding luminosity and more brilliant color. Part of the beauty of this technique is revealing some of the underlining imagery in selected spots. These metaphors and messages can play a whimsical or thoughtful role in your finished piece. We’ll also explore iridescent, interference, and opaque watercolors techniques to further enhance and embellish the surface.
This workshop will include some materials: water-soluble pencils, gesso, acrylic medium, collage materials, watercolor paper, gouache, interference, and iridescent watercolors.
