Journey to ancient Egypt and learn how to make scarabs! Wait. What’s that? A scarab is a special beetle that ancient Egyptians believed brought protection and good luck when they were worn as adornments. Cool right? Join Instructor Ginna Brooks and have fun making your own scarab! Over this two-day camp, you’ll work with polymer clay as Ginna shows you several techniques to create amazing iridescent scarabs. You’ll learn how to condition and texturize clay as well as blend colors for a marbling effect. She’ll also show you how to use stamps and sculpt your beetles to personalize these treasures before they go into an oven to cure. Once you’ve assembled your Egyptian scarab art, you’ll be ready to wear it, hook it on your backpack and keep it in your pocket for good luck! All supplies included to create one bolo tie medallion or pendant, one bead-embellished backpack charm or key ring, and one pocket scarab! Oh, and Ginna also has a very special surprise for you that you won’t want to miss! So, grab your friends and embark on a summertime archeological expedition to Ancient Egypt!
