Join Artist Instructor Helen Garcia as you explore the versatility of watercolor painting. The focus will be on contemporary watermedia approaches including the “dropped in color” technique, which incorporates luminosity and brilliance in painting. It’s an exploratory, wet approach to painting which allows colors to blend and fuse without making “mud.” Work with other contemporary experimental painting techniques too, including mark making and surface textures to create glaze layers in exploratory compositions. Alternative supports will be explored with different types of paper, and collage will be introduced for a mixed media effect. Pigment characteristics, color theory, composition, and design will also be covered with demos, critiques and individual instruction. Students should have some knowledge of basic watercolor techniques.
Bring your artist kit and these supplies the first day of class: 1 sheet of Arches 140lb cold pressed watercolor paper- cut into quarters, 1 # 12 or 14 round watercolor brush, watercolor paints you already have on hand, palette, water container. Additional supply list will be available upon registration. You are welcome to bring a snack (to be enjoyed on our back deck) and bottled water.
